Deadlines for submission of legislation in 2006

 

1. For introduction of bills to be passed by the end of the Second Tern (23 June 06):

           

            17 February for section 76 bills

            21 April for section 75 bills

 

2. For introduction of bills to be passed by the end of the Third Term (22 September 06):

           

            26 May for section 76 bills

            21 July for section 75 bills

 

3. For introduction of bills to be passed by the end of the Fourth Term (17 November 06):

           

            11 August for section 76 bills

            1 September for section 75 bills

                                                           

Explanatory notes on deadlines

 

In order for a bill to meet the deadline, it must comply with all relevant rules, and a certified manuscript must be received by Parliament. 

The calculations for the deadlines are based on the following formula:

 

·         Six week legislative cycle for NCOP and a four-week period for the NA in respect of section 76 bills, and a further two weeks for technical preparation at introduction.

·         Three week legislative cycle for the NCOP and a four-week period for the NA in respect of section 75 bills, and a further two weeks for technical preparation at introduction.
